Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Department No. 1 specializes in providing advisory, diagnostic and surgical care to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, as well as congenital and acquired pathology of the heart and large vessels. Every year, our staff performs about 500 operations of varying degrees of complexity for children aged from the newborn period to 18 years.


Department staff

The medical staff of the Cardiac surgery department No. 1 is represented by highly qualified specialists who have completed internships in clinics in the USA, Germany, Austria, Poland and Russia. The staff of the department regularly attend various international congresses and symposiums on pediatric cardiac surgery and cardiology, and also maintain close contact with their numerous colleagues from clinics near and far abroad.

The range of services of the department

Thanks to the long-term and successful work of the team, the clinic has accumulated unique experience in the surgical treatment of a full range of congenital heart defects, including:

  • emergency surgery of newborn children with critical congenital heart defects:

    arterial switching surgery for transposition of major vessels, plastic surgery of critical aortic coarctation, plastic surgery of the aortic arch in hypoplasia and aortic arch interruption, correction of the common arterial trunk, aorto-pulmonary window, total abnormal drainage of the pulmonary veins, abnormal divergence of the coronary arteries from the pulmonary artery, imposition of aortopulmonary anastomosis in pulmonary artery atresia, Norwood surgery for hypoplasia of the left heart, atrioseptectomy for tricuspid valve atresia, etc.

  • staged hemodynamic correction of congenital heart defects:

    bidirectional cavapulmonary anastomosis surgery (Glenn or hemi-Fontaine surgery) and Fontaine surgery for hypoplasia syndrome of the left or right parts of the heart, as well as other forms of the single ventricle of the heart

  • correction of septal congenital heart

    defects: plastic surgery of interventricular septal defects (including multiple LVD), banding of the pulmonary artery, correction of double divergence of the main vessels from the right ventricle, plastic surgery of atrial septal defects (isolated, as well as in combination with abnormal drainage of the pulmonary veins)

  • correction of the Fallot tetrad:

    radical and palliative surgical correction of the Fallot tetrad

  • correction of atrioventricular communication:

  • correction of congenital valvular heart pathology, as well as Ebstein's abnormalities:

  • endovascular surgical correction of congenital heart defects:

    closure (occlusion) of defects of the atrial and interventricular septum, embolization of the open arterial duct and aortopulmonary collaterals, balloon dilation of stenoses of the aortic and pulmonary valves, as well as stenoses of the main and peripheral vessels, stenting of the aortic coarctation, stenting of the outlet of the right ventricle in tetrad Fallot

  • treatment of pulmonary hypertension:

    treatment and examination of patients with pulmonary hypertension of various etiologies

  • surgical correction of cardiac arrhythmias:

    implantation of pacemakers, as well as resynchronizing devices
