The structural unit is performing artificial blood circulation during routine and emergency operations for patients (children of all age groups and adults) with congenital and acquired heart and vascular defects. The department connects devices for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in severe forms of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. One of the areas of work of the department is the connection and further support of patients undergoing long-term auxiliary circulation (LVAD). Specialists of the structural unit carry out renal replacement therapy in patients with cardiac and general surgical profiles. The department has in its arsenal all modern extracorporeal detoxification techniques that help to stop hypervolemia, correct electrolyte disorders, and remove pro-inflammatory cytokines. Blood samples are also collected and autohemotransfusion is performed during cardiac surgery and general surgical procedures with massive blood loss. The department is equipped with inpatient perfusion systems of the latest generation (Sorin, Terumo), various ЕMO systems (Medos DeltaStream DP3, CentriMag, EUROSETS EcmoLife/Solibri), a device for long-term auxiliary blood circulation (HeartMate3 LVAD), as well as devices for renal replacement therapy (Fresenius Multifiltrate). Clinical research work is carried out on the basis of the department. The specialists carry out continuous professional development by participating in international conferences and trainings.

Employees of the extracorporeal circulation department

The department‘s staff provides artificial blood circulation, which is a temporary complete or partial replacement of pumping and gas exchange functions of the heart and lungs for the duration of openheart surgery using artificial circulation devices, as well as modern biocompatible circuits and oxygenators. Our specialists, as part of a specialized team, travel to other hospitals in the republic to connect EMO to patients with refractory cardiogenic shock, severe ARDS and other pathologies.
