Surgical Department No. 1 (emergency)

The department is designed to provide round-the-clock emergency specialized care to patients aged 0 to 15 years (inclusive) from Minsk and from 0 to 18 years old from other regions of the Republic of Belarus with surgical pathology.
Every year, about 4,000 patients with suspected acute surgical pathology receive care in our department, and about 1,200 operations are performed. The department is the training base of the Department of Pediatric Surgery of BSMU, where students are trained, trainee doctors, clinical residents and graduate students are trained.



Department staff
The staff of surgical department No. 1, as well as the involved pediatric surgeons of other surgical departments, carry out work to provide emergency and emergency care to patients in the evening, at night, weekends and holidays.

treatment of acute surgical pathology (acute appendicitis, peritonitis, intestinal invagination, intestinal obstruction, etc.);
treatment of pinched hernias of the anterior abdominal wall;
treatment of chemical and electrochemical burns of the upper gastrointestinal tract, treatment of post-burn cicatricial stenosis of the esophagus;
treatment of pancreatitis;
treatment of patients with injuries;
normo-, moderate and deep hypothermia in children of all age groups.
treatment of patients with gallstone disease and gallbladder polyps;
treatment of patients with varicose veins of the lower extremities;
surgical treatment of nevi and other benign skin growths;
As part of this work, in addition to the above, emergency operations are carried out for newborns to correct congenital malformations, necrotizing enterocolitis in newborns, and other emergency surgical pathology in patients of other age groups, operations for purulent–inflammatory diseases of bones, joints, and soft tissues, and care for patients with injuries, chemical and electrochemical burns of the upper gastrointestinal tract, with foreign bodies of the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract.
